Tim Atkin:

Thirty of the 32 parcels on the estate in Roa were used to produce this 2020 bottling from Miguel Alonso del Yerro. Deftly wooded in 10% new oak because of the lighter, more elegant year, this is a subtle, graceful, well-defined Tinto Fino with good underlying grip, chiselled acidity and a racy red berry finish. 2024-32

The Wine Advocate:

The classical red 2020 Alonso del Yerro was produced with grapes from different plots identified after a soil study of their 26 hectares of vines that were planted 38 years ago in the village of Roa. They don't use herbicides, and they do their own compost and use cover crops. The grapes were picked picked between September 22 and 28 and fermented in stainless steel. The wine matured in French oak barrels and stainless steel between nine and 15 months, depending on the lot. It has notes of raw meat, licorice and leather, dark fruit and some earthiness. The palate reveals some rusticity and abundant, earthy tannins. 48,000 bottles and 520 magnums. It was bottled in October 2022.

James Suckling:

A full-bodied, chewy red that has aromas of dark plums, strawberries, tobacco and coffee. The tannins are firm and dusty. Cocoa powder to close. Try after 2025.
