The NV 40 Year Old Dry White Port (Dalva) is a beauty. It is a field blend, mostly Malvasia Fina, Viosinho and Rabigato, coming in at 69.3 grams per liter of residual sugar and bottled in 2017. With just a touch of sweetness obvious on the finish when first opened, this has a drier feel to it, but it never seems austere or too laced with alcohol (as some can). With a day or two in the fridge, what sweetness it had blew off and it acquired the refinement of a table wine. It was actually better on the third day tasted. It is fresh and refreshing, but more importantly, very precise and elegant. It doesn't hit you over the head with anything, but it has notable grip on the finish and it lingers forever. The impeccable balance and long finish mean that it is easy to drink and easier to love. You could almost use this at the table as a table wine. Beautifully wrought, this is impressive.
A rich while still dry wine, this is concentrated and dense with old wood flavors. It has a sense of old gold and spice, along with acidity that adds a tangy edge to the dryness.
