Josetta Saffirio Barolo DOCG Perno 2018

This is a new submission from Josetta Saffirio that had been held back for an extra year of aging. The 2018 Barolo Perno shows broad structure and substance with ripe fruit flavors and a glycerin-rich finish. There is elegance too with streamlined, almost tart berry flavors and drying mineral notes to conclude. Perno is a site next to a charming hilltop hamlet at the center of the appellation surrounded by steep vineyards on all sides. Not too long ago, it suffered some severe weather patterns because of its open exposures, but that is no longer necessarily the case given changes to the climate. We are seeing more wines from Perno today.
